Hi,
I am modeling river ice with KHIONE, I want to know what is main difference between KHIONE old version(V8P3R0) and KHIONE last version ( V8P4R0) , because I got different results like water temperature, frazil ice volume from these two version with the same data?
Also , the old KHINOE version accept multi class frazil ice but in the new version, I can just give one diameter for frazil?

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

There is no major differences in KHIONE between V8P3 and V8P4.

Multiple radius class is still supported in V8P4 as well as in the latest main version as you can see in KHIONE's validation examples such as Carstens or Tsang & Hanley.

However, default parameters for thermal growth have been changed between V8P4 and main.

Are your sure about the versions you have trouble with?

Also, please check default parameters and calibrated parameters in the dico and the example if the problem persists.

Regards,
Fabien.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply, in the new version V8P4, in 2-D, when I use following key word I got different results:

SCHEME OPTION FOR THERMAL GROWTH

Also, Total ice thickness will not calculated in this option too.

this happens in 3-D version Also.

Ok, thank you for reporting this issue.

I suggest you use default time integration option (Euler Forward) for thermal growth until this is fixed.

Also note that using appropriate time step is really important since thermal growth is subject to stability constraints. So please check your time step is not to big compared to the range of radius classes you set in your study.

Also, the ice cover models currently available in KHIONE are very much WIP.
So don't expect accurate results on the ice cover component of the code.

Thank you Fabien for email and your points, I am modeling ice formation on the river based on the measurement data and I got good results by using KHIONE (2-D and 3-D TELEMAC), I am looking forward to see updated version to check my calculation results.
Kind Regards
Omid
