Hello all,

I was asked (via email) if it was possible to animate surface elevation along a section. Since this would be of interest to a wider audience I thought I'd post the answer here. Referring to the attached image...

BK_Sections.jpg

1. Create a new open line that defines your section. (the black line in the image.
2. Use "Edit->LineSet->Resample", Resample the line to some finer resolution. I used 1000m here.
3. Select the Surface Elevation in the workspace.
4. Use "Tools->Extract TimeSeries->Along a Line..." This generates a ts5 object.
5. Drag the ts5 object into a new 1D view.
- Time is on the horizontal axis
- distance along section is the vertical axis
- colours represent scalar quantity (SE in this case)
6. Make sure that the colour scale of the surface elevation and the ts5 object are the same.
7. Select the 1D view in the workspace.
8. Synchronize the 1D views timestamp to the 2D view "View->Select Sync View"
9. Animate the surface elevation in the 2D view. A red vertical line will be displayed in the 1D View at the correct timestamp.
10. If you drag the 2D and the 1D view into a new ReportView you can create an AVI (See example in attached zip file)

Cheers... Martin
