Blue Kenue - Erroneous node connections in 2D view 12 years 6 months ago #2973

Hi,

I'm getting unusual connections between distant nodes when I display meshes in 2D view in Blue Kenue (see attached file). They're always close to vertical and can't be selected and they disappear when the mesh is displayed in 3D.

Has anyone else seen this?

I'm running Version 3.2.30 (EnSimCore Version 3.2.57) which is the newest version including the boundary condtion editor - maybe this has something to do with it?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Does this always happen or just with a particular data file?

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

It happens around 90% of the time with every data file I've used.
I've just generated another mesh using a domain outline - it has 2022 nodes, 3722 elements and I count around 16 of these erroneous vertical lines.

The number of lines appears to be related to the mesh size - just tried a larger default edge length with the same outline - 251 nodes, 392 elements and just 1 erroneous line.

When I have very large node counts the graphic in the 2D view is obscured by them.

It also occurs for the output Selafin files from the Telemac2D test cases (version 6.0).

Would it help if I find a node count/erroneous line ratio for you across multiple meshes?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,

I haven't seen this problem in quite a while...

It is not in fact a Blue Kenue bug.
In fact it is an OpenGL driver issue.
What video card are you using? and is the driver up-to-date?

Cheers... Martin

Thanks Martin!

Problem solved.

My NVIDIA Quadro FX 580 was running driver 190.38.
I updated to driver 276.14 --> Problem solved.

Thanks very much!

Steve

Good stuff!

Just a final note here WRT Blue Kenue display bugs/quirks/issues.

1. We highly recommend the use of NVidia cards as their OpenGL drivers seem most stable.
2. If something seems wrong with the display then the first thing to check should always be the video driver. (The drivers that get installed by default are usually out-of-date.)
3. This holds for LINUX systems as well.

Cheers... Martin
