TOPIC: 3D View fails

3D View fails 3 years 4 months ago #37348

Hi,

Following the tutorials and guidance provided with the manual, I created a domain (channel mesh + outline) mesh and added Z values through Tools > Map Object (and the 2D Interpolator).

The height information stems from the attached raw_points.xyz file, which is, admittedly, a very dense point cloud. On a side note, I used an xyz file because importing the points from any other file type (ascii raster, Esri Point shapefile, comma-delimted text file, GeoTIFF) failed (BlueKenue returns import errors).

Using the Map Object tool with a 2D Interpolator object resulted in the attached MeshDomain.t3s (not a very good mesh, but OK-for-exercise).

Here is my problem: If I want to verify the consistency of the mesh using a 3D View, but it does not show the correct Z value of the mesh (Attribute 3). Moreover, the xyz points do not show up at all in a 3D View, while 2D View works well. I already tried to:
  • add a consistent projection (with zone and ellipsoid)
  • change the point delimiter in the xyz file (comma, semi-colon, space, tab)
  • adapt the color scales of the mesh file
  • adapt other header key words of the xyz and Mesh files (e.g., directory, Attribute*args, double-checked with reference manuals on xyz files)

None of these actions makes the xyz points show up in 3D view; none of these actions correctly shows the mesh in 3D view. In addition, I tested everthing with BlueKenue 3.12.0 64bit and 3.4.0 32bit on Debian.

Does anyone have an idea why this happens or where is the error in my files/approach?

Thanks for your time,
-Sebastian

Hi
On windows with the version 3.12.0 64 bits, I'm able to display a mesh and a shape file of points in 3D...
I enclose a capture illustrate this test on my side.
I scale the points clouds to 1 and the mesh to 10 on Z to better see both

So it's probably linked to Wine

Thanks, I did not try scaling until now, but it does not show any effect neither.

I tested all of the above also on Windows with BlueKenue 3.12.0 64bit (I found the 64bit versions a bit cumbersome to wine-install, which is why I also tested on Windows).

I manage to visualize the tutorials, so I guess technically everything is OK from the Software side. So there is very likely an issue with my xyz/mesh files, but I cannot see where and why. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong with my files?

Best,

-Sebastian

maybe you could find a solution to give an access to your files...

EDIT: For some reasons, none of my files are uploaded in the Forum, so I uploaded them here:

Hi
No problem with the 3d view if you start by scaling the values to 1 and more important by shift the Z values with -400

Shift was the issue - Merci, that worked.

Out of interest, I loaded your 2D Triangular Scalar Mesh into Blue Kenue 3.12.2-alpha to confirm things are ok... and they seem to be.
  • As a side note, thank you for sharing your data so that I could check

Here is a screen snapshot of the settings that I used:

Could you let me know if any of these problems you mention in your post exist in BK 3.12.2-alpha?

Thanks,
Alan

Alan,

The issue with the GeoTIFF or other raster-like files is that I can only create them as 64 or 32-bit float, but BlueKenue only accepts 16-bit. So that issue persists, but maybe I got something with the way BlueKenue reads data types.

Best,
Sebastian
