Gaia Mass Balance - meaning of listing values? 9 months 3 weeks ago #42955

Hello there,

I have a couple of questions how to check and interpret the listings regarding mass balances in the command window during a GAIA simulation (see example attached).
In the first part the listing corresponds to my specific sediment class and the second part a mass balance over all classes.

I: Cumulated bed evolutions: balance of Exner Equation?
II: Erosion / Deposition flux: zero when equlibrium sediment discharge keyword (.cli file adapations) are adapted??
III: Lost mass: whats the reason for losing mass (mathematical issues/roundoff issues)?
IV: relative error to initial active layer mass: why two values here provided?

Since there are very less information available in the user manual how to interpret these listing values, it would be very helpful for some hints.

Best wishes,
Mati

Hello Mati,

I am not a GAIA nor a sediment transport specialist, but my best advice is to read the mass_balance.f file available in $HOMETEL/sources/gaia folder as what is written in your picture is computed and written there.

Hope this helps,
