Dear all,

I am currently running an SST tracer simulation in TELEMAC-2D, and I have encountered an issue with the tracer transport.

The tracer does not appear to advect properly with the flow. Instead, it seems to remain attached to the upstream boundary, as if it is continuously being washed out or reinitialized at the boundary, rather than being transported downstream by the hydrodynamic field.

From the attached figure, it can be seen that the tracer remains concentrated near the upstream boundary while very little transport occurs throughout the computational domain.

The hydrodynamic simulation appears to be stable, so I suspect the issue may be related to one of the following:

Tracer boundary condition definition.
Mesh quality or numerical diffusion.
Advection scheme used for tracers.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue or can suggest what might be causing this behavior?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Hello Juli,

A few comments/questions:
- can you upload the LIQUID BOUNDARIES FILE + BOUNDARY CONDITIONS FILE + FORTRAN FILE (for the LIQUID BOUNDARIES FILE, be careful with the syntax how to define the headline and variables, order tracers/boundaries, check the user manual),
- what behaviour if using the keyword PRESCRIBED TRACERS VALUES without LIQUID BOUNDARIES FILE (or without any TR(,) in the LIQUID BOUNDARIES FILE)?
- rather than deactivating DIFFUSION OF TRACERS = NO, I would let to default value (YES) but set COEFFICIENT FOR DIFFUSION OF TRACERS = 0.;0.
- which release do you use?

Hope this helps,

Chi-tuan
