Good afternoon,

We are currently developing a 3D estuary model which, we are attempting to couple to WAQTEL thermic and ultimately Eutro. The 3D model with temperature and salinity runs fine and the results look reasonable, using release V8P5 of the code. However, when we coupled with WAQTEL thermic and set ATMOSPHERE-WATER EXCHANGE MODEL = 2, the model will not converge. We have reducing the TIME STEP < 0.1 s, increased the MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ITERATIONS ... > 2000 and increasing the OPTION OF SOLVER FOR ... Regardless of these changes the model we make the model will not converge and returns EXCEEDING MAXIMUM ITERATIONS: 1000 RELATIVE PRECISION: NaN

If we modify the geometry to remove the intertidal flats from the model domain, it converges very quickly and runs fine. Has anyone had any success coupling Telemac3d and WAQTEL Thermic and applying the model to intertidal estuaries?

Attached is the model and associated files, with the exception of the TPXO tidal database files as they are too large.

Thanks
Glen

Hello Glen,

Unfortunately, WAQTEL thermic module with option 2 (complete flux balance) does not work with dry areas at the moment as told in some other posts.

What you can try is the linearised formula (ATMOSPHERE-WATER EXCHANGE MODEL = 1) which may better work in your case.

Hope this helps,
