open TELEMAC-MASCARET The mathematically superior suite of solvers

Hi all! The aim here is to visualise the results in a slf file (Telemac 6.3.2) with Paraview 3.14.1.

I am using the tool sel2vtk_new available from the subfolder v6p3r2/optionals/addons/Paraview_Plugins/sel2vtk. This is an implementation of the tool SEL2VTK 0.5.5. Several posts in this forum category (seem to) lend reassurance that this is one workable and handy way to proceed.

I am testing the waters on two cases from the validation suite (Malpasset and Wesel, using the latter as a cross check in case of doubts). This previous post contains my early steps to get here.

This first screenshot shows the content of the slf file as visualized by Blue Kenue:




This second screenshot shows show I used sel2vtk_new:




This is how Paraview reads the vtk file resulting from the same slf file. Note no cells, no points, no memory usage in the information tab:




Questions

[1] Do you spot any obvious mistake that I made and missed?

[2,3] Does the cas file perhaps need be preconditioned (i.e. contain special instructions) in order to eventually deliver a slf file that can be converted into a vtk? For example by calling special libraries. If so, how?

[4] Are there somewhere guidelines with handle-with-care rules to work out the Telemac results with Paraview?

[5] Would someone who successfully used sel2vtk 0.5.5 repeat/review these steps (it will not take long) and share his/her experience?

review my previous use of paraview.
In fact I used stbtel to convert a selafin file to vtk instead of using sel2vtk...
It's available at least with the version 7.0 of telemac (maybe earlier but not sure...)

The evidence then mounts that sel2vtk is of no use. I move on and explore stbtel, which does feature in Telemac 6.3.2.

maybe a stupid question but did you press the "Apply" button in the "Properties" tab which is 2 tabs on the left from the "Information" tab?

No stupid question at all. The intelligent answer is "yes, I did, after I did not". The difference between doing and not doing it features here in the forum (change from NA's to zeros, plus you may notice in the information window that the file had been loaded).

For the safety's sake, I also uploaded some vtk files produced by an SPH solver in order to be sure that I wasn't fooling myself with false procedures or with an odd Paraview. I wasn't fooling myself indeed was my conclusion.

Those willing to replicate this simple case may refer to this thread for a glance at some previous forum information on sel2vtk and to download the executable that I have used.

This problem has been addressed and sorted by Clemens/konsonaut in this parent thread. Kudos.

Down that thread you can find a zipped document sel2vtk_merged containing a pair of working source and executable for future reference and ease of use.
