Bathymetry or water depth? 11 years 3 days ago #8675

Dear all,

I'm preparing a geometry file in BlueKenue in order to run a simulation of a channel with Telemac2d. As far as I understand, apart from the mesh, I need to include the bathymetry, defined as the heights of the channel bed throughout the domain from a reference height (such as the mean sea level). In my case, however, I have not very precise values of bathymetry; on the contrary, I have extensive data of the water depth throughout the domain. My question is: is it possible to prepare the selafin file for telemac2d with just mesh and water depth information? Or is it compulsory to include the bathymetry information in place of the water depth?

Thank you all

Hello,

The water depth is not a sufficient data in itself, as the program will need to compute the free surface and its gradient, thus it will have to add the bathymetry and the water depth. So you certainly need to know a reference level ZREF or the free surface elevation when the depth was measured, and give ZREF - DEPTH for the bathymetry.

With best regards,
