How to force tidal constituent at open boundaries 11 years 10 months ago #4833

Hi,

I am trying to create a flow simulation using TELEMAC 2D in a gulf region.
I have the tidal constituents values at the open boundaries of the gulf.
Is there any example with similar simulation, where the forcing
at the boundaries is given by tidal constituents?

I had referred to an earlier post at
www.opentelemac.org/index.php?option=com...emid=89&lang=en#4350

where it is mentioned that a case may be provided.
However I was not able to find the test case.

Thanks,
Gourish

Hi Gourish,

In the TELEMAC3D, I change the variabel HBOR in the subroutine Bord3D. If you have the phase and amplitude to each boundary node, then you may calculate the sea level increase with the tide equation.

To the TELEMAC2D, I think is similar.

Best,

Gustavo.

Hello,

Is your gulf region located in the Atlantic Ocean or English Channel?
If not, the proposed test case is useless. But, you can find enclosed the test case without the big files to decrease the size of the archive (in particular, the reference files are not included, please comment VALIDATION = OUI and FICHIER DE REFERENCE = ref...)

Anyway, to have an example of the code to force tidal constituent, you can read tidal_model_t2d and bord_tide subroutines available in telemac2d directory (or in the Fortran file of the 3 examples).

Hope this helps,

Chi-Tuan

Thank you Chi-Tuan it will also help me!
is there a way to get your files geofin and bdd_jmj?
Thanks a lot

Hello,

You can find enclosed an archive with the two files geofin and bdd_jmj that may help you if your model is located inside the area (close Atlantic and English Channel).

Hello, I was reading this post and I got particularly interested in why its been said that if the test case is located other than in Altlantic and English Channel, it will be useless. I would like to understand the reasons behind it to learn a bit more.

Also I would like to know if it is possible to have access to the files Mr Pham sent in the comments (geofin and bdd_jm). Thank you.

Hello,

The extent of the geofin (now called tid_tide-jmj.slf and bdd__tide-jmj.txt is Atlantic Ocean and English Channel. If your mesh is outside this extent, you will not be able to interpolate good data.

The 2 files are available in the $HOMETEL/examples/telemac2d/tide example with names tid_tide-jmj.slf and bdd_tide-jmj.txt since 2013! But 11 years ago, not yet.

Hope this helps,

Chi-Tuan
