TOPIC: Hydraulics and river dynamics

Hydraulics and river dynamics 3 weeks 2 days ago #44778

dear friends:
I want to simulate the flow pattern under the arrangement of multi-stage stilling basin. Can TELEMAC2D simulate the flow pattern of water with multi-stage stilling basin? Like the one in the figure, which module is suitable for simulation?
best wishes

Hi Abandoned,
I suppose so.
It's all about free-surface flow (The pools are open-air, aren't they?). The mesh and associated topography will enable you to do this work.
To fill the basins at the start of the model, you'll need to take into account an initial ‘surface elevation’ condition where you set the water levels in the basins.

I would simply use TELEMAC2D, and BlueKenue for generate the mesh.

Kind regards,

Thank you for your answer. The elevation change of stilling basin at each level is different. When considering the surface elevation conditions, how to stipulate and make it appropriate?

You need to use a Selafin initial condition.

You can read the section 'Prescribing initial conditions' in the user-manual.

The purpose of the initial conditions is to describe the state of the model at the start of the simulation.
The initial state must be defined by the user. In simple cases, this can be done using keywords, or by programming in more complex ones. It is also possible to define the initial state using FUDAA-PREPRO.

If you only use key-words, you can't apply a varying initial condition.

What I don't know is whether the previous calculation file must necessarily be the result of a first calculation, or whether it's possible to create it via Bluekenue.

I think you need to go through Fudaa-Prepro for that.

Hi
You could use Telemac-2D to simulate the flow pattern but take care about the slope between basins where the shallow water assumptions are not necessarily ensured...

Thank you for your answer. How to consider the change of this slope and the influence of stilling basin when using telemac-2d simulation? Especially when using bluekenue, what kind of change does this interpolation data need to make?
