Hello all,

Recently I'm using TPXO9v5 to deal with some near-shore ocean modelling problems.

The model, when calibrated by tide levels, was able to present a relatively good agreement, except at low tides. However, comparing the model with the measured tidal results (peak ebb tide and peak flood tide), some problems arose.

In places where flood tide velocity are greater than ebb tide velocity, the model is able to reproduce the flow processes. Nevertheless, where the ebb tide velocity is greater than the flood tide velocity, the model is unable to reproduce the process at all.

The main problem is that the model does not restore the velocity that should be present at ebb tide, and the velocity at ebb tide is completely underestimated. This results in the whole model not reproducing the observed hydrodynamic phenomena very well, or even showing opposite trends.

Therefore, I would like to ask if there is a way to increase the velocity of the ebb tide for this situation, or what should be done to deal with this problem?

Hope someone could give me some suggestions.

Sincerely,
Grebe

Hi,

Just an idea as I already met this kind of issue.

Are you sure that your bathymetry at the boundary is consistent with TPXO uv ?

In my case, my boundary with inconsistent bathymetry was the cause of instabilities.

You will have to describe more in details your case.

Alexis
